There are common signs and symptoms of pregnancy

These symptoms can be indicators of pregnancy but are not proof positive of being pregnant. You should get tested to confirm pregnancy.

Missing Period

Missed periods for a couple of weeks after your regular menstrual cycle, is a good indication that you might be pregnant. However, this is not the case all the time, sometimes getting off oral contraceptives can delay your menstrual cycle. You can also have a delay if you have an irregular menstrual cycle.

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is a common name for nausea and or vomiting because of pregnancy. However, despite what the name suggests, it can occur at any time. Some women never experience morning sickness. Morning sickness is likely caused by the changing of hormones within your body.

Tender Swollen Breasts

Tender, swollen breasts can be an early sign of a pregnancy hormonal change. This tenderness usually involves both breasts and can occur multiple times. When your body adjusts to the hormones the tenderness can go away. Tender breasts have also been linked to hormone therapy and oral contraceptives.

Increased Urinary Frequency

Increased urination is a common side effect of being pregnant. Your uterus will expand and compress your bladder. As the amount of blood in your body increases, the body causes the kidney to process more fluids. These fluids will then continue to the bladder as well.

Pregnancy Testing

safe, secure, and free Pregnancy Tests

There are two main types of pregnancy tests, blood tests, and urine tests.

There are two blood tests a qualitative hCG and a quantitative hCG test. The qualitative hCG test answers the question, “Are you pregnant?”. Giving you a “yes” or “no” answer. A quantitative hCG test measures the exact amount of hCG within your blood. This method can find very low levels of hCG. (See Human Chorionic Gonadotropin: Hormone, Purpose & Levels)

Urine tests are easy to use and more confidential than a blood test. They are quick easy and accurate if you follow the directions closely. It is used to test the urine for pregnancy signs. The response from the test only takes a few minutes.
